Lungisani Omega Mhlongo was born in KZN Wasbank.
His musical inspiration is Thalani Mthethwa of Petermartitzburg Choral Society, and he has collaborated with many local jazz and blues veterans, including the late Sophie Mgcina and Dolly Radebe.
As a member of the Junior Manhattan Brothers, he discovered the music of the ’50s; the group was featured in the film Drum.
Lungisani studied at the Ishashwalaz Drama College, performed at the Windybrow Theater, and is an award-winning poet.
When not on tour with the choir, he works for a number of shelters including the Rosca Children’s Shelter and Nkosi’s Haven, volunteering as a sport and recreation manager and teaching basic music and drama skills.
A career highlight was performing with Tsepo Tsola and Debra Frazer in London as part of South African Freedom Day.
